Everybody's body is different. Learn the right way to do your postures for your body!
Now that many of you are practicing Bikram Yoga regularly, it's the perfect time to make sure you're doing the postures in the right way for your particular body.
According to Bikram, "As long as you do postures correctly, you will get 100% benefit physically, mentally, physiologically, and psychologically."
We are going to have a special class that focuses on postures to help you improve your practice. Postures will be corrected individually based on your existing conditions and body proportions.

My life had become this routine. Get up in the morning, brush my teeth, pack up my school bag and run out the door to make my thirty minute commute to school. Mind you, this morning preparation all took place in ten minutes because I'm always sleeping in to the very last minute I can afford before I'm not too late.
My life in the past two years has been a blur. I was always in a rush, and when I look back I cannot recall what for. I was not satisfied and I hadn't completed anything gratifying to myself. I was just there. I felt as though I was being held back or waiting for something. Even though time was moving quickly, I felt I was just observing and going through the motions. I wasn't focusing in school, my job was draining my energy, and with all that to experience I wasn't taking care of my health. After the end of that year I had slowly gained about twenty-seven pounds. It was quite a shock to me because with that lifestyle I didn't notice the snug fit of my jeans or the quickness of breath I had walking to and from my car. Along with the physical weight gain, I felt a mental pressure added on my shoulders, back, and legs. . Once the shock faded, realization dawned on me. I noticed the changes and they weren't good ones. I didn't feel well and I felt I was losing myself in this blur.
One day I thought to myself, "What am I waiting for? A miracle?" I couldn't begin to feel better or make any positive changes unless I took action and did them myself. I acknowledged that I was living unhealthily and decided to make a positive change. I understand it as a change that must come from within yourself, not a change influenced from life's distractions like wanting to look like that hot model on the front cover of a magazine or on TV. I wanted to better myself for me. I compare it to this feeling of growth that's like a small flower sprouting from the ground ready to take that breath of life, budding into a promising blossom, and finally blooming to a beautiful sunflower, dancing in the air with happiness.
Funny sometimes how life works too. I've done yoga in the past and quit because it didn't fit my schedule at the time, but I'd fallen into love with it. Yoga replaced my life's confusion with calm and clear focus. It wasn't until one day at work that I felt I was given a sign. My co-worker one day was talking about a regular who owned a Bikram Yoga studio. She filled me with all the details and I saw it as a sign to bring back yoga in my life. As soon as I could I registered and committed myself to change no matter how hard it would be or long it would take. What in life that is granted easily is ever worth it?
Starting Bikram yoga has changed my life for the best. Ever since practicing it, I've become more relaxed and conscious of my choices in life's everyday challenges, and trust me that I am very appreciative for. Commuting to school and focusing in class was no longer a trial. Within weeks, the weight I've gained slowly melted away, dropped 12 pounds and was making better choices with what I ate. I've become like that happy sunflower. Life's no longer a blur and I don't have that unease of something holding me back. There's lightness to my step and most times I catch myself thinking none of it would have been possible if I didn't take that initiative to start yoga again. I'm truly grateful to have yoga back in full action! I'm taking life one day at a time with a smile on my face as bright and wide as that sunflower. |
